Goals
As educators, our goal is to teach to not what “is” but what “will be”. The skills and attributes of successful professionals in the future include, but are not limited to-- creativity, problem solving, global awareness, respectful skepticism, cooperation, responsibility, independence, self-discipline, ethics, systems thinking and conversational and technological literacy. It is our hope and belief, that by implementing this program, we will enable our students to become the facile learners they must be to be successful in life.
Creation of the laptop-learning environment will achieve the following goals:
- Enhance teaching and learning by providing each student with around-the-clock access to technology. This overcomes the barriers of access to computing labs in terms of both availability and location.
- Enhance teaching and learning by enabling the integration of technology into every course. This overcomes the barriers of limited space and limited funding for hands-on computer classroom facilities.
- Provide teachers and students with training in integration of technology into instruction using best practice models. Teacher staff development should focus on helping students create learning products using technology and should occur in a variety of workshops and electronic forms.
- Provide technology to support quality instruction to ensure that all students meet district curriculum standards in their presentation of lessons, problem solving, electronic student products, and assessment of learning.
- Provide technology to support special population students with access to technology-based instruction to include adaptive and assistive devices including technologically enabled modifications for specific populations, whether they are special education students, ESL students, or students at-risk of course/test failure.
- Implement appropriate, current, and emerging technology as an integral part of learning by teachers and students.
- Provide opportunities for students to use technology as a tool for effective communication, personal productivity and lifelong learning.
- Employ technology to enhance the quality of instruction.
- Use technology to enable students, parents, schools, and the community to communicate with district staff and to obtain District information at all times.
- Incorporate innovative technologies to revolutionize teaching, learning, and working.
- Provide an atmosphere that fosters innovation in exploring new and innovative technology applications.
