SCHOOL COMMITTEE: The next meeting of the Gateway Regional School Committee is Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. in MS Rooms 112/114. They will host their annual Staff Honors Reception from 6 – 7 p.m. in the Courtyard that night, to honor our retirees and Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching finalist. Light refreshments will be served. Click here for information about May meetings. The public is welcome to attend.

ANNUAL TOWN MEETINGS:Middlefield and Blandford have both held their Annual Town Meetings and have both approved the alternative assessment method (which will help stabilize town assessments over several years) and the alternative assessment budget amount for the coming school year. Upcoming town meetings include Montgomery on May 21 (7 p.m. at Montgomery Town Hall); Huntington (Monday, June 4 at 7 p.m. in Stanton Hall); Chester on June 9 (1 p.m. at Chester Town Hall); and Russell at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 11 (former Russell Elementary School building)Information on the FY’19 Budget and the alternative assessment method proposal can be found here.

AUDREY GAMBLE’S SR. YEAR BLOG: In her most recent blog post, (“Wait, AP Exams are THIS Week?”) communications intern Audrey Gamble describes the pressure and rewards of taking AP Exams, as her senior year starts to wind down.

FINALISTS FOR GOLDEN ACHIEVEMENT AWARD ANNOUNCED: Principal Jason Finnie has announced the five senior class finalists for the Golden Achievement Award: Dawson Atkin, Ryley Carleton, Joseph Coon, Audrey Gamble and Jessica VanHeynigen.

SWAMPED! A MUSICAL ABOUT FRIENDSHIP, TOLERANCE AND CHANGE: Littleville first and second graders will present the musical Swamped! on Thursday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Gateway Performing Arts Center. A student art show precedes the play, which is sponsored by the Gateway Education Foundation..

GATEWAY STAFF TO BE HONORED BY SCHOOL COMMITTEE: The Gateway Regional School Committee will host their annual Staff Honors Reception, starting at 6 p.m. in the Gateway Courtyard on Wednesday, May 23. Eleven staff members will be honored for retirements and for special achievements.

BASEBALL, SOFTBALL SR. NIGHTS: Sr. Intern Audrey Gamble reports on the final regular season games for the baseball and softball teams, where senior athletes will be acknowledged. Read the complete article for details.

SCHOOLS CLOSED FOR MEMORIAL DAY: All schools, offices and Wrap Around will be closed Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day. The Gateway HS Band will march in the Huntington, Chester and Montgomery parades this year.

ALTERNATIVE SPORTS BANQUET MAY 29: The Gateway Athletic Booster Club is sponsoring an alternative to the banquet that was cancelled a few weeks ago. All athletes, coaches and teams (and athletes’ families) are invited to a dessert buffet on Tuesday, May 29. Families are asked to bring a dessert to share.

FOUNDATION BOARD TO MEET: The Gateway Education Foundation’s Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on Monday, May 21 at 6 p.m. in Dr. Hopson’s office.
