INSTRUCTION - Professional Development Opportunities

During the 07/08 school year, several in-district opportunies will be offered.  Additions to the list below will be made as new opportunities emerge as the school year progresses.

  •  Curriculum development - teachers will continue to work on scope and sequence or vertical articulation documents during early release days and faculty meetings identified by building principals.
  • Core reading program - PK-6 teachers and staff will be trained in how to most effectively use Houghton Mifflin core reading materials.
    • September 5 - initial training for all K-6 staff
    • September 18 - assessment of reading progress
    • January 24 - differentiating instruction
    • April 8 - TBA based on issues that arise during initial implementation year
  •  
  • Intervention reading program - PK-6 special education and reading teachers will be trained in how to most effectively use Houghton Mifflin's intervention program called Soar to Success.  Late September.
  • Inspiration Software Demo - demonstration by high school teacher Keith Lepine on how to use this software as an instructional tool.      Date - TBA
  • SMART Notebook Demo- demonstration by high school teacher Daniel Shea on how to develop these notebooks as an interactive teaching tool.     Date - TBA
  • SMART Notebook Development - follow up training for elementary and middle school teachers trained in SMART software as an interactive instructional tool in 06/07.  Eligible teachers will be contacted about the first meeting date.
