Teachers use assessment information about how well each student is learning to match instructional strategies with the learning needs of each student,  communicate learning expectations to students, and provide feedback to students on how well each is meeting those expectations.  Data from assessments is also used within the district to evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and school programs .   The Department of Education uses MCAS scores to monitor whether each school district is making Adequate Yearly Progress.
