McQuade, Long to represent Gateway at ‘National Girls and Women in Sport Day’

Huntington - Juniors Erin D. McQuade and Hannah E. Long, both of Huntington, have been selected to represent Gateway Regional High School at this year’s Massachusetts Celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.  The event will be held on February 2, 2007.

Students are selected based on their contribution to women’s sports and their schools, as well as their academic standing, character and leadership,” said Gateway Athletic Director Jeffery Fisk, upon announcing the honors.

McQuade plays varsity soccer, basketball and softball for Gateway.  She is the daughter of Deb McQuade of Huntington.

Long is manager of the Cross Country team, and plays basketball and softball for Gateway.  She is the daughter of Jerry and Wendy Long of Huntington.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. at Fanieul Hall in Boston, and is scheduled to coincide with the national recognition of the signing of Title IX, which afforded females’ increased athletic opportunities at schools and colleges.  This year’s theme is “Throw like a girl – Lead like a champion.”
