WINTER WEATHER CLOSINGS AT GATEWAY
Huntington- With winter fast approaching, it is time for parents and students to review how to find out if school is delayed or cancelled due to winter storms. Information on school closings or delays can be found on radio and television stations, recorded telephone announcements, and postings on the Internet. As in the past, school closings in the Gateway District will be announced over the following radio stations: WMAS (94.7 FM/1450 AM), WHMP (99.3FM/1400AM), WHYN (93.1 FM, 97.9 FM, 560 AM, and 640 AM), and ROCK 102 (102 FM). Television stations WGGB (Channel 40) and WWLP (Channel 22) will relay school closing announcements for Gateway schools. School delays and cancellations will also be posted on the Huntington-Chester cable access channel’s community bulletin board (Channel 15). Gateway has a direct telephone number—685-1001—where callers can hear a recorded message regarding school closings and delays. Parents can also contact the Gazette Line at 584-3200 and enter code 3704 for Gateway. Internet web pages may be accessed at www.grsd.org (the district web site). The link to the delays and cancellations page is in the drop-down menu under “General Information”.
The decision to close or delay school is usually made by 5:30 a.m. and is based upon information from local and national weather stations, town highway departments, police departments, and bus contractors. In the event of a two-hour delay, your child’s school will open exactly two hours later than usual. Breakfast and morning snacks will not be served. School lunch and afternoon preschool classes will be offered as usual. |
