MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

The Mathematics program is designed to provide a sequence of courses to meet the individual needs of all students. A visual approach to the study of Mathematics is stressed with the use of graphing calculators whenever possible. The use of scientific calculators is also stressed in appropriate courses. Several levels of instruction are carried out to provide regular and enrichment materials for students of varying mathematical aptitudes. The courses in the Interactive Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II sequence have been restructured to combine the best features of a traditional college preparatory Math sequence and the problem solving approach used in the Interactive Mathematics Program(IMP). PLEASE NOTE: Students applying for admission to Massachusetts four-year state colleges and universities must complete the Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II sequence or an equivalent program to be considered for admission.

300 MATH FOUNDATIONS Year 5 Credits

Prerequisite: None

Math Foundations is open to students who have not received previous Math credit on the high school level. The purpose of the course is to reinforce skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Work with fractions, decimals and percents will be emphasized along with application problems.

301 INTEGRATED MATHEMATICS I Year 10 Credits

Prerequisite: None

This course provides an integrated approach to the study of Algebra and Geometry, preceded by a thorough review of basic math skills. There will also be an emphasis on preparing students for the Math portion of the MCAS test.

302 INTEGRATED MATHEMATICS II Year 10 Credits

Prerequisite: Integrated Mathematics I

This second course in the Integrated Math sequence continues to combine the teaching of algebraic and geometric concepts in an effort to prepare students for the MCAS tests.

308 INTERACTIVE ALGEBRA I--Standard Year 10 Credits
309 INTERACTIVE ALGEBRA I--Advanced Year 10 Credits
