Rules
The Music program is designed to advance the students musical abilities while performing a wide variety of music.
Students are required to take 2 units of fine arts (either art or music) to graduate.
950 CONCERT BAND— Year 5 Credits
Prerequisite: Prior experience in instrumental music program
The Concert band is the main ensemble in the program. The band's repertoire consists of quality original works for band and the best in orchestral transcriptions. Members are auditioned each year for seating arrangement by the director and seated to meet the needs of the ensemble. The ensemble performs a regular concert schedule which provides a number of performing opportunities throughout the school year. Each member of the concert band is also a member of the marching band. Participation in all performances in mandatory to receive full credit.
951 JAZZ ENSEMBLE— Semester 5 Credits
Prerequisite: Successful audition and selection by band director
The Jazz Ensemble is an integral part of the overall music program. A serious effort is made to promote the growth and performance of jazz and related styles of music. The Jazz Ensemble performs a regular concert series throughout the school year. Students also have the opportunity to work and perform with guest artists and clinicians. Jazz Band members also combine with the Concert Band in all regularly scheduled concerts throughout the school year.
955 CONCERT CHOIR— Semester 5 Credits
Prerequisite: None
Concert choir is the main musical ensemble of the vocal program. The emphasis is on advancing choral abilities and performing a wide variety of choral repertoire. The Concert Choir performs a regular concert schedule throughout the school year. Attendance at all performances is required in order to receive full credit.
956 SHOW CHOIR— Semester 5 Credits
Prerequisite: Successful audition and selection by choir director
Show choir combines vocal and choreographic skills of its members. The group performs a regular concert program in addition to performances in area community events. Various types of pop and jazz make up the repertoire of the Show Choir. Students in Show Choir also combine with the Concert Choir in all regularly scheduled concerts throughout the school year.
968 VOCAL JAZZ GROUP— Semester 5 Credits
Prerequisite: permission of instructor
This course is designed to teach vocal techniques in the popular jazz style of music. This group will perform on their own and with the concert chior for the annual holiday concert and other events and/or competitions as they occur. This course is a performance class and to receive full credit all performances must be attended.
969 ELECTRONIC MUSIC WRITING WORKSHOP— Semester 5 Credits
Prerequisite: None
This course will utilize the new electronic music lab using the comperter to learn theory, music reading and composition through the program Sibelius. At the end of the course all students will have composed a piece of music to be performed at a concert at the end of the semester, which students in the course must attend.

Rules
Band: Come to class on time and prepared with instruments, music, and any other objects instructed by teacher (such as flip-folder/lyres, water, and/or uniforms for marching or concert).
Stay on task, no talking during practice, and be on time to all concerts and musical performances.
Band Booster meetings are worth extra credit points, as well as bake sale items, and setting up for musical activities (such as concerts, and chorus activities).
Chorus: Come to class on time and prepared with music, and any other objects instructed by teacher (such as uniforms, and/or water).
Stay on task, no talking or fooling around during practice, warm up properly so as not to hurt the vocal cords, and be on time to all concerts and musical performances.
