The Gateway School of Technology is a group of programs consisting of technology-based courses that contain course sequences that prepare students for further study in technology-related career fields or entrance into the labor market following high school graduation into entry-level positions in technology-related fields. The programs of the School of Technology have combined the existing Technology Education courses with additional courses to expand the coverage and preparation that students receive in various areas in the Technology field.
The programs of the School of Technology share the following characteristics. Students completing the course sequence in a particular program will have the opportunity to receive college credit for those courses if they continue study in the program at the college level. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in internships and job shadowing experiences at local businesses who have agreed to serve as business partners to the School of Technology. Finally students will complete or approach completion of requirements for an industry-based certification or license in the specific career field served by the program.
The School of Technology currently has seven programs: Biotechnology, Computer Networking, Communications Technology, , Welding/Metal Fabrication, and Introduction to Science, Teachnology, and Engineering. The Introduction to Science,Technology, and Engineering course is a prerequisite for any School of Technology program.
