Geometry

Welcome to Geometry

You may find this course different from other math courses that you have taken.  We will learn to take advantage of reason and proof to solve many problems.  We will learn more about the relationships of many figures.  Geometry will give you visual meaning to arithmetic and algebra problems.   It will be challenging and useful.  Engineers, architects, painters, carpenters and teachers are only a few of the people who use geometry in their daily lives.  I hope that you find this course interesting and enjoyable.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Measurement of  segments; relationships between points and lines
  • Geometric properties
  • Deductive reasoning; paragraph and formal proofs
  • Relationships among angles
  • Similar and congruent triangles
  • Parallel lines and related figures
  • Lines on a plane and those in space
  • The study of polygons and similarity
  • The Pythagorean Theorem
  • Area, surface area and volume
  • Properties of circles

We may watch videos from the number series, which correlate, to the curriculum.  We will also likely watch the Nova special on who shot President Kennedy.
