Art Foundations 1 is the first introductory course for students wishing to take additional courses in the Art department. This course provides students with the basic foundation of the elements and principles of art. Students will be introduced to a variety of two-dimensional and three dimensional media including charcoal, paint, collage, printmaking, wire, cardboard, paper mache, plaster craft, and mixed media in the study of line, color, shape, space, value and texture. In this class, you will learn to see in a new way. Through basic design assignments, you will learn the fundamentals of both 2D and 3D design. Specific lessons will be informed by some of the giants in art history—for example, artists from Rembrandt to Picasso have much to teach us regarding vision and line. This class will provide you with a chance to experiment, discover new ways of thinking about and looking at art and the world. You will be encouraged to work hard and gain confidence as an artist.
