Review lesson for Area and Perimeter

flower

Area and perimeter are two ways to measure a plane figure.

The area of a figure or polygon is the number of square measurement units needed to cover the figure.

The perimeter of a figure is the number of measurement units needed to measure around the entire outside of a figure or polygon.

When figuring the area of an odd shaped polygon, you will need to figure out how many square units are needed to cover the shape.

When figuring the area of a rectangle you multiply the width times the height.

When figuring the perimeter of an odd shaped polygon, add the lengths of all the sides.

When figuring the perimeter of a rectangle, multiply the width times two and add it to the height times two.
