Welcome to the Gateway Middle School Band Parents Web Page.
This Parents Page is designed to keep you informed with our classes and to give you some ideas as to how you can help your child grow musically.
Be sure to refer to the Handbook Page whenever you have questions abour our policies.
You may also email me at any time when you have questions and I will very likely get back to you within a day.

Practice Tips for Parents:
1. Just like regular school work, an instrument needs to be practiced outside of band in order for students to experience growth and success. Set aside time during the homework time at home. Allow students to use practicing as a break from homework. Most importantly , let your child know when it is appropriate to practice, but please allow for time.
2. Practicing is best done when the student is not distracted. Unless they are using a practicing program on the computer, they should not be near a computer, TV, phone, or anything that could distract the practice process.
3. Make sure your child has what they need to practice successfully. Things like a well working instrument, a stand for music, valve oil, reeds, metronome, or tuner can always make them better. Ask often how the instrument is working; students tend to not report malfunctions, but if asked, may keep you updated!
4. Ask your child about upcoming performances. This will help them to keep in mind what they need to be practicing the most.
