Advisory

Spring 2005

Description of Advisory

The primary purpose of the Advisory program is to provide the time and the environment for developing significant relationships between each student and an adult advisor in order to better personalize the student’s overall school experience. The Advisory program is an informal support system for students with staff and family that fosters personal growth and a sense of community. The Advisory program will be student-driven and advisor-facilitated.

In this program students will develop a personal learning plan to help guide them through high school and into the future. Students will want to revisit and revise their plan periodically as they learn more about themselves and their interests.

Advisory Curriculum:

• Self-assessments and inventories to determine learning styles, strengths and interests
• Team building activities
• Job/Career exploration
• Familiarization with opportunities and resources in the high school
• Community projects
• Development of a Personal Learning Plan (PLP)
