Reading and Writing in Third Grade |
| Reading and Writing |
|
In Third Grade, we read books of many genres, from realistic fiction and fantasy to biographies and otheer non-fiction titles. Ramona The Brave by Beverly Cleary, The Chalk Box Kid by Clyde Robert Bulla, Balto and the Great Race by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel and Stuart Little by E.B. White are just a few of the great books we are reading this year. Each book that is read is followed by it's own assessment, from paper plate dioramas, traditional book reports, or book report "recipes", there are many ways for our students to tell us about the book they have read. In our writing block, we work hard on standard paragraph form, including a topic sentence, three main idea sentences, and a conclusion sentence. But in addition, we also write poetry and pen-pal letters. In addition, cursive writing is a very important part of the third grade year. |
