HOMEWORK POLICY
Ah, the on-going homework battle......Here are some things you will need to know....
Answers to frequently asked questions:
1. Yes, we do have homework almost every night. If there isn't written work, chances are we have vocabulary words to study.
2. Yes, we do have a book report approximately every six weeks. If your child isn't reading a book or can't tell you what he/she is reading, something is wrong.
3. Yes, seventh graders can receive up to one and one half hours of homework per night. That isn't per subject; that's total. If it is taking much longer than that, we need to know. If your child never brings work home and doesn't have a daily study period, we need to know.
4. Yes, Ms. Luppino does accept late work. In order to build responsibility, the grade for late work gets progressively smaller each term. Term one-80%; Term two-70%; Term three-60%; Term four-50%. The idea is to turn completed assignments in on time; and if that isn't possible, at least finish as much of each assignment as you can.
5. Yes, there are ways to boost your grade in English class. Throughout each term, there are often bonus opportunities which students can use for increasing low homework scores, banking for future use, or for end-of-the-term grade improvements. Depending on what a student needs, completing one or two bonus assignments is never a bad idea.
6. Yes, Ms. Luppino does send home a progress report for every child. Expect one at the half way point of each and every marking period. (About three weeks after school starts; and after that, about three weeks after each report card.)
7. No, you don't need to write a note if a family emergency kept your generally up-to-date child from completing one assignment. I will accept your child's explanation and grant an extension if one is appropriate. If an on-going personal matter is making life and school difficult, however, please give me a call. I certainly won't ask for particulars, but if I can be more aware of matters that make school more challenging for your child, that is always helpful.
