Block 2 : Academic Support Class

 

     Academic Support is a 63 min., 5 credit course. The goal of this class is to advise you of your accommodations, and strengthen your basic skills: math, reading, writing, study habits, organization, etc…), and to improve your comprehension of your current subject matter, such as vocabulary, science, history, etc…Since we will be working together, we must work as a team, each contributing to the goal and success of Academic Support.

Attendance:

Please be on time; class begins when the bell rings.
Come to class if you are in school; class cutting results in a “0” for the day.
The pass is a privilege; if you abuse it, you will lose it.


Assignment Notebook:

You will be asked to keep some type of assignment notebook or tracking system, checked every day in Academic Support to ensure that you are recording all assignments in your other classes.
Preparation:

Reading material, textbooks/notebooks, a writing utensil,and your assignment notebook should be with you when you come to class, not left in your locker.
Behavior:

Be respectful of others.
Cooperate with directions.
Maintain a positive learning environment.
Refrain from disruptive behavior.
Participation:

Actively participate in all class discussions and activities.
Complete assignments from your folder of work sheets while waiting for assistance or after completing academic assignments.
Be a partner in your IEP goals; you are the most important member of the team
You will be asked to perform a brief self-assessment on a weekly basis in which you will comment on your performance in class. This will be kept in your classroom folder
Grading:

Assignment notebook -or-( system of record keeping)– 25%
Checked daily (graded 1-4)
4 – major classes & assignments completely filled in prior to Academic Support class and dated
3 – assignments noted elsewhere (individual notebooks)
2 – assignments written during Academic Support class.
1 – no assignment book -or-( system of record keeping)


Participation – actively working, self starting assignments, asking for help when needed - 25%
4 - always
3 - often
2 – sometimes
1 – rarely or never
Skills – per IEP or Academic Support teacher – 25%
Student accountability rubric- (completed on a weekly basis) - 100%
