Dear Friends of Gateway:
Here is your latest issue of Breaking News—the e-newsletter of the Gateway Regional School District—for the 2019-20 school year. We are always looking for feedback and ideas to improve the newsletter, so please feel free to contact us!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
UPCOMING EVENTS: Click here to see the website calendar. Click here to go to the athletic calendar. And check out the November Counter Card for a quick guide to all the event highlights this month.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE: The Gateway Regional School Committee will meet in a facilitated discussion with the MA Association of Regional School representatives and community participants at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 21 in MS Rooms 112/114. The public is welcome to attend and have their comments heard and questions answered.
PBIS STAFF VS STUDENT VOLLEYBALL: PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and it has been a successful new program across the district this year to reward students for meeting behavioral expectations with tickets that can be redeemed for various small prizes and activities. This week, students paid in tickets to participate in a staff vs. students volleyball game--perhaps not surprisingly, the students won handily.
WINTER SPORTS TRYOUTS: Try out for a winter sports team including basketball, skiing, cheerleading, or wrestling. Starting December 2, check out the Gateway Athletics website for more info.
LITTLEVILLE ANNUAL CRAFT FAIR: Join us this Saturday, November 23, 9am-2pm and shop local vendors and crafters, find great one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, enjoy refreshments, check out the bake sale & silent auction, and enter the gas card raffle! Free entry, great family fun, all are welcome!
MIDDLE SCHOOL E-WASTE FUNDRAISER: The Middle School Student Council is working to collect electronic waste (old computers, phones, game consoles, etc) to responsibly recycle and sell. You may deposit unwanted electronics in the bright green designated boxes available at Chester & Littleville, as well as the Gateway MS/HS lobby. It's a great way to reduce clutter in your home and support Gateway!
STEM WEEK: Another acronym! STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and is a nationwide educational focus. Students at the Gateway Middle School had a fun week of hands-on activities and learning about a range of STEM topics this fall, including a project that combined engineering and ecology where students designed and built a dam and learned about the potential effects on a local lake.
SEND US YOUR PHOTOS!: Students, staff, parents and community members now have a place to send their favorite Gateway photos, for distribution to the public. Please email photos that you capture at sporting events, field trips, plays, concerts, classrooms and school events to email@example.com
GATEWAY GAMERS NIGHT: The Gateway High School Enterprise Club is hosting another Gateway Gamers Night Friday, December 6, from 4pm to 8pm. Students will be playing video games on the big screen in the auditorium. The event is free to attend, $5 to play. Middle & elementary school students are welcome with a parent or guardian staying for the event.
SUPPORT GEF: Remember the Gateway Education Foundation on Giving Tuesday, December 3! Did you know that you can raise funds for the Gateway Education Foundation when you shop online? You can, if you process your Amazon order through “Amazon Smile”. It’s simple and Amazon will donate a percentage of your sales to the Foundation.
HALF-DAY ON NOVEMBER 27 & BREAK: All students in the Gateway Regional School District will have a half-day on Wednesday, November 27, and no school on Thursday, November 28 & Friday, November 29.
