Dear Friends of Gateway:

Here is your latest issue of Breaking News—the e-newsletter of the Gateway Regional School District—for the 2019-20 school year. We will be sending out special editions of Breaking News to summarize the week's changes surrounding the closure of the district due to health concerns around COVID-19 & the novel coronavirus. Visit this Special Info page of the GRSD website for regular updates, health information, and letters to parents/guardians. And for a quick one-page summary, check out our Summary of the Week: Week 1 here.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
—Coretta Scott King

MEAL PROGRAM UPDATE: Gateway's incredible Food Service team is offering free meals to all children aged 18 and under, regardless of household income. Pickups will be Monday through Friday, 11am until 1pm.

MS/HS ENRICHMENT & GRADES: Students should have now received enrichment assignments from their teachers. Grades for 3rd quarter close March 30, and will not include any work after the school closing. Parents can log in to their PowerSchool Parent Portal.

GUIDANCE FOR HOME CHROMEBOOK USE: For many parents and students, this may the first opportunity to get used to online learning and home Chromebook management. All student Chromebooks are secure and monitored, and parents should feel free to limit screentime or request other accommodations as necessary. Gateway is working to facilitate community internet access where possible, but families should feel free to reach out if access is a problem so they can receive paper assignments.

SEND US YOUR PHOTOS! YES EVEN NOW!: How are things going? Are you working from home? Has your family come up with any creative activities? Have you seen anything interesting on a walk recently? What are your family and friends doing to support each other? Send any photos of what you're up to!  We'll post our favorites to Gateway social media & website. Let's stay connected!

SUPPORT GEF: Remember the Gateway Education Foundation in your year-end giving to get a potential tax deduction. GEF supports all kinds of great educational and extra-curricular programming that enriches the Gateway experience for students and our community.

SUPERINTENDENT'S CORNER: This week's update from Dr. Hopson on all MA schools closing until April and steps the district is taking to still meet the academic and social-emotional needs of its students.

ONLINE RESOURCES & ACTIVITIES: During this time when many organizations and activities are closed or cancelled, there are a lot of really great online resources to keep kids busy and engaged.
