Dear Friends of Gateway:

Here is your latest issue of Breaking News for the 2020-2021 school year!

Quote of the week: “A human being is not attaining his full heights until he is educated.” ~ Horace Mann

MIDDLE/HS CLIMATE SURVEY: We want to hear about your experience with your student’s education at Gateway Regional High School and/or Gateway Regional Middle School. We invite you to participate in completing the School Climate Survey. This survey includes questions about your student’s learning, school safety, and interpersonal relationships, as well as your attitudes about the institutional environment and your personal involvement in school. Your responses will be very helpful in improving student relationships, learning conditions, and the overall school environment. Insert link -

SENIOR AWARD LIST:  Principal Finnie is pleased to announce all the senior award winners. Congratulations to the Class of 2021 seniors! The full list of honorees with their accolades can be found here.

COVID VACCINATION CLINIC: Hilltown Community Health Center, in coordination with the vaccination clinic in Northampton, will be hosting a family vaccination clinic on Saturday, June 5th from 9am – 12pm at Stanton Hall in Huntington. The Pfizer vaccine will be given, so they are able to vaccinate everyone 12 years of age and older.  A second clinic will follow for the second doses on Saturday June 26th form 9am to 12pm at Stanton Hall.

HILLTOWN FAMILY STORYWALK: The Hilltown Family Center and Littleville Elementary School invite families to a StoryWalk of the Little Gardener by Emily Hughes at Littleville Elementary School in Huntington beginning June 2nd through June 10th.  StoryWalk combines the pleasures of reading wonderful children’s books aloud with all the joys and benefits of walking together outdoors. StoryWalk is a fun, educational activity that places the pages from a children’s story along a popular walking route in your community. Conceived to inspire parents, teachers, and other adults to take young children outdoors to enjoy reading stories together, StoryWalk helps build children’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy outdoor activity for both children and their grown-ups.

CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION: Chromebook collection for remote students will take place on Tuesday, June 15th at the HS/MS complex from 6:00am-8:30am and again from 3:30pm-6:00pm.  Students should bring their chromebook, charger, case (only for grades K-2) and HotSpot (if assigned one) to turn in at that time.  All devices must be turned in to the district.  For components not turned in, the following charges will apply:

ELEMENTARY SPIRIT WEEK: June 7-11 we will be celebrating the end of the school year with a different theme each day and playing field day games during PE classes.  More information will be coming home from your student’s teacher.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM WRAP-UP: After a late start, our Middle School After School program was a fantastic success with lots of laughs, activities, and fun! Students participated in fun relay races, pond exploration, went on fishing trips to Littleville Lake, planted flowers to beautify our building, created glass sculptures and jewelry, outdoor games, cooking, crafts and other fun activities! Find some more info and photos here.

CURBSIDE MEALS TO GO UPDATE:  Our last Curbside Meals to go will be Wednesday, 6/9 between 7am-8:45am. Please sign up by 9am Tuesday 6/8 for Wednesday 6/9 meal pick up. We will be providing 5 breakfasts/5 lunches, for families who are choosing to have their children remain in “Remote Learning” or for siblings, or any other unenrolled children up to the age of 18. All enrolled children who will be attending “In Person Learning” will NOT be eligible for Curbside meals because they will be offered meals while in school. Our staff at Gateway Food Services will continue to do our best to meet the needs of our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Tasha Hartley @ 685-1005 or email

PERSPECTIVES MAGAZINE: A new edition of the Gateway High School Perspectives magazine is ready to view! Take a lot at some of the exciting things happening here.

STUDENT ACTIVITY SURVEY: Gateway MS/HS is seeking interested volunteers to help expand the club/recreational opportunities for students grades 7-12.  Clubs could be either online through GoogleMeet or in person at the school (once COVID restrictions are lifted). If you would be interested in getting more information about this initiative or would like to volunteer, please complete this brief survey, or email MS/HS principal Jason Finnie at

EBT BENEFITS UPDATE: P-EBT benefits will be extended through the summer! If your student qualifies for Free or Reduced meals under the National School Lunch Program, then they would qualify to receive this extra financial help each month in the form of a P-EBT card. If you have not received this card, it may mean that your family does not qualify. This year the USDA extended free meals to all, but this may not necessarily qualify a family for this extra financial help. If you have not been receiving this P-EBT card and you feel your family would qualify, please contact Tasha Hartley at or call (413) 685-1005. You may also send in a Free/Reduced meal application if you feel you would qualify through income. Families who qualify through income will be sent a notification letter by email or USPS as soon as possible.

CURRENT SCHOOL CALENDAR: Key dates for phased return to hybrid in-person can be found on page 19 of the Full Reopening Plan here.
