TIERED FOCUS MONITORING RELEASE: During the week of February 4th the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE’s) Office of Language Acquisition will conduct a Tiered Focused Monitoring Review of Gateway Regional School District. The Office of Language Acquisition reviews each district’s and charter school’s ELE program every six years to monitor compliance with federal and state English learner education laws and regulations. Areas of review will include English learners’ student assessments, identification of English learners; what programs English learners are placed in, parent and community involvement, curriculum and instruction, student support services, licensure requirements for faculty, staff and administration, program plans, and evaluation and recordkeeping. See the complete release here.

VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS VIDEO: Gateway has two amazing vocational programs and we want to get the word out about them! Check out the video here.

COVID AND STATE MANDATES: DESE Commissioner Riley announced that the mask mandate will continue through February 28, 2022.  At that time, he will reassess COVID data to determine if it will continue.

There have been questions about the school going remote if COVID numbers continue to rise or if it is determined that we cannot adequately support students due to staffing absences.  The state is not permitting remote learning for any public schools at this time. If we determine that we cannot operate safely, we are directed to close and make up the day(s) missed in June. Blizzard bags are also not an option this school year, per the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

FREE TEST KITS DISTRIBUTED TO ALL STUDENTS NEXT WEEK: Thanks to our partnership with the Hilltown Community Health Center, free at-home test kits will be distributed to students this upcoming week. A kit contains two self-administered tests. Tests can be used anytime the family deems it necessary to do so. We will call families on the day that kits are coming home. If your child is absent the day that kits are distributed, we will hold them for your child. If you do not want a kit, please let the school principal know.

LOCAL AND STATEWIDE COVID DATA: The MA Department of Public Health puts out COVID data for our local towns and counties on their statewide data dashboard.  COVID reports will also include school district information regarding positive cases and close contacts.
