Dear Friends of Gateway:

I can’t believe it is our last full week of school! It has been a true pleasure getting to know your students this year. Congratulations to the 44 graduates who earned their diploma on Friday. It was a beautiful ceremony to celebrate their hard work!

Don’t forget that next week, both Monday June 13 and Tuesday June 14 are half days. Middle and high school dismiss at 10:40am and elementary schools dismiss at 11:40am. There is no wrap around on Monday June 13 and Tuesday June 14 so we can prepare for our summer programming!

We welcome your comments and questions! Please reach out to your child’s school principal or Superintendent Smidy.

We hope to work out all the kinks now so we are ready to go at the start of the 2022-2023 school year, so your feedback is appreciated. Thanks for your patience!

SENIOR AWARDS: Congrats to this year’s senior award winners. Just a few of the honors include valedictorian, salutatorian, golden achievement, John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and many more. Here is the complete list

BAND AND CHOIR GOLD AWARD: Congrats to the Gateway grade 7, grade 8, concert choir, and show choir along with the 7/8th grade band on earning a gold medal at the Great East Festival. Hosted at Gateway, Mt. Greylock came to the school to play for judges. The judges are contracted by the GEF staff, and they provide insightful commentary for each group that performs, and then give them a 10 min clinic to have a chance to hear guidance and direction directly from them. Then each group is awarded a plaque with a Gold, Silver or Merit Medal.  The Medal is determined from a scoring rubric for each group, so each group is judged against itself, not each other.  This helps to foster a community environment, rather than a competitive environment.  It's possible for each group to receive a gold if they all score high enough.  Congrats Gateway! Big shout out to Ms. Beauregard, Ms. Guertin, Ms. Wright and the stage crew for their hard work!

PREK OPENING FOR 3 YEAR OLDS: The district has room for a few more preschoolers in the Chester half day preschool program for the 2022-2023 school year. Children need to be three on or before September 1, 2022. There are openings in both the morning and afternoon sessions. The hours are from 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:00 p.m.; there is no cost to attend. The district already held their lottery and these slots will be filled on a first come basis. If families are interested they should contact Susan Rhoads at srhoads@grsd.org or 413-685-1312.

  • Pooled testing will conclude at the end of the school year and will not continue for summer programming or into the 22-23 school year.

  • Self-administered at home tests will be available to students and staff who are attending summer programming. Self tests will be distributed to students and staff who are symptomatic. Routine at home testing will no longer be available.

  • Quarantining and isolating is only required for individuals who are symptomatic close contacts and for individuals who test positive.

  • Individuals who test positive must isolate for five days. Individuals may return to school/summer programming after day 5 if symptoms have subsided and they either wear a mask through day 10 or test negative on day 5.

  • Symptomatic individuals must have a negative test result on a self test to continue to be included in programming. If a test cannot be performed, the symptomatic individual must leave school.
