Volunteers

Volunteers are an important part of student achievement! 

There are many ways to help support Gateway students, including:

  • staffing an elementary school library;
  • serving on a committee;
  • serving on a school council;
  • tutoring students;
  • fundraising with PTO's, booster clubs or the Gateway Education Foundation;
  • chaperoning field trips.


Volunteer procedures are outlined in the 2017-2018 Volunteer Handbook.  Volunteers must sign the Volunteer Agreement (located in the handbook) annually. You may print it out, sign it and return it to your school's secretary. Volunteers who will be working directly with students (such as library volunteers, chaperones, etc.) must have a CORI approved every 3 years with the district.

Individual teachers will announce the need for parent/guardian chaperones throughout the school year. For more information about other volunteer opportunities, please contact:

PTOs are committees comprised of parents, teachers and other school staff who raise funds to defray student costs (such as field trips) and to purchase or provide materials needed by the school.

Role is described above. The Chester PTO meets on the first Monday of each month from 6-7 p.m. Childcare is frequently available.

Elementary library volunteers provide coverage during the school day when classrooms visit the library. Duties include checking books out, re-shelving books, and entering new materials into the system. Morning and afternoon shifts are available on Mondays and Wednesdays at Littleville and on Thursdays at Chester. Substitute library volunteers are also sought!

Parents and students are needed to join this group, which meets quarterly at the end of a school day. The Advisory Council provides input into programs such as school nurse offices, the district wellness policy, the School-Based Health Center and Gator Grins. 

       
Gateway Athletic Booster Club Colette Fellows 387-7031  
 

 The Gateway Athletic Booster Club raises funds in support of the Jr./Sr. High School Athletic Program. Many volunteers are needed to work the concession stands at soccer, basketball and wrestling events, as well as to attend monthly meetings (first Sunday of each month at 7 p.m. at Stanton Hall in Huntington). Funds raised are used to purchase needed items for the sports teams, to provide scholarships to graduating seniors and to recognize student athletes, teams and coaches.

The Gateway Education Foundation raises funds to enhance learning opportunities for the students, classrooms and schools of the Gateway Regional School District. Help is needed on fundraisers, marketing and to serve on the GEF Board of Directors.
