Dear Friends of Gateway:
Here is your last issue of Breaking News for the 2019–20 school year! We will still be sending out special editions of Breaking News in the coming weeks and months to update our community on any relevant changes related to our return in the fall or helpful information for families. You can still visit this Special Info page of the GRSD website for regular updates, health information, and letters to parents/guardians. Thanks for a great school year! It was certainly different, but we are so grateful to our students, staff, and families for supporting each other and finding ways to stay positive, as always.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you. The only lasting truth is change."
PLANNING FOR NEXT YEAR: There are still many unknowns surrounding the return of Gateway students and staff in the fall, and we are eagerly awaiting additional guidelines from the state as we make plans. We wanted to share a brief list of our considerations and intentions as a district, to help families start talking and planning around expectations, as far as we know them as this point.
MASSLIVE SENIOR DAYS: Congratulations to all our senior athletes! Check out this MassLive feature on Gateway seniors.
CONGRATULATIONS TO GATEWAY RETIREES! We are so lucky to have such an amazingly skilled and committed staff at Gateway, and we are sorry to see some of our favorites retiring this year. But we wish them well, and we are super gator-grateful to Mary Krupa, Joanne Frappier, Linda Robert, Kathie Preuss, Susan Luppino, and Dawne Piers-Gamble for all their years of service to our students and our community.
FREE VIRTUAL EVENT: SCHOOL'S OUT, NOW WHAT? Check out this free online event offering practical tips and inspiration for the summer months at home and advice for parenting teens and tweens amid pandemic and protest. The event is Wednesday, June 24 at 4 p.m., and will address issues ranging from family limit-setting and keeping young people safe to helping young people cope with anxiety and stress as the pandemic continues and communities respond to racial injustice and systemic racism. Register online here.
CHROMEBOOK DROPOFF: All grade levels should have now returned their Chromebooks. If you were not able to, please bring it by the Gateway security desk (Middle/High School Main Entrance) next week as soon as possible (Monday through Thursday, 8am - 3pm). The last day to return Chromebooks to security is Thursday, June 25.
HILLTOWN FAMILY CENTER: This great resource in Huntington offers free classes, workshops, and activities to help families meet basic needs, establish social connections, and provide concrete support. Check out the flyer and see what they could offer you and your family this summer.
VIRTUAL FIELD DAY: Everyone had a blast, thank you to all the students and staff who participated!
GRADUATION UPDATE: Class of 2020 has been rescheduled for Friday, July 24th, with social distancing and limited to family/household groups.
FOOD ACCESS: The last day of Gateway's free meal pickup was June 12th, but there are many additional resources available in our region to support families who need additional ongoing food assistance.
